This Privacy Policy describes how GPS Speedometer (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application (the “App”). It applies whether you download the App from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
The App is a utility for GPS-based speed measurement, trip recording, alerts, and related features. We designed it with privacy in mind: no user accounts, no upload of your trip data to our servers, and no cross-app tracking or advertising SDKs. We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect or process only what is needed to operate the App:
- Location data: While you use the App, to measure speed, distance, duration, route polylines, and (on supported platforms) companion watch or home-screen widget display. Location is processed on your device to provide features.
- Device and app information: Such as device model, operating system version, and app version, for compatibility and support.
- Local preferences: Speed units, travel mode, overspeed alert settings, appearance, language, HUD options, and similar settings stored on your device.
- Trip records: Data you choose to record (e.g., speed samples, distance, route points, timestamps), stored locally on your device by default.
- Subscription status: Whether you have an active Pro subscription, determined through Apple In-App Purchase and/or Google Play Billing. Payment, receipts, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google; we only store subscription entitlement locally on your device.
We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number unless you voluntarily contact us (see Section 12).
2. How We Use Information
We use the information above solely to:
- Provide core features (real-time and trip speed, distance, duration, history);
- Display route maps and trip previews;
- Deliver overspeed alerts (sound, vibration, or notifications if you enable them), HUD mode, and widgets where supported;
- Process subscriptions, renewals, and restore purchases through the applicable app store;
- Improve stability, compatibility, and user experience.
We do not use your data for targeted advertising or to build advertising profiles.
3. Legal Bases (EEA/UK Users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process personal data based on:
- Contract: To provide the App and features you request;
- Legitimate interests: To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the App, balanced against your rights;
- Consent: Where required for optional permissions (e.g., notifications), which you may withdraw in device settings.
4. Storage and Retention
- Trip data and history are stored locally on your device and are not synced to our cloud servers in the current version.
- Settings and widget-related data may use on-device storage (e.g., preferences, app group storage on iOS).
- There is no account system and no cloud backup provided by us.
- Data remains until you delete it in the App, clear app data in system settings, or uninstall the App.
5. Permissions
- Location: Required for speed measurement and route recording. If you deny location access, related features will not work. The App is intended to use location while you are using it; we do not use background location tracking unless a future version clearly discloses and requests that permission.
- Notifications (optional): Used only if you enable notification-based overspeed alerts.
Permission names and controls may differ slightly between iOS and Android; you can change them anytime in your device settings.
6. Third-Party Services
The App relies on platform services from Apple and/or Google, including:
- Location services (GPS);
- Maps (e.g., Apple MapKit on iOS; Google Maps on Android where applicable) to display routes—subject to Apple’s or Google’s respective policies;
- In-app purchases (App Store / Google Play) for subscriptions;
- System notifications for optional alerts.
We do not integrate third-party advertising networks, analytics SDKs that track you across apps, or social login providers.
When you use the system share feature to export trip data, you choose the destination; we do not receive that shared content.
7. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may disclose information only when:
- Required by applicable law, regulation, or valid legal process;
- Reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of users, the public, or our App;
- Necessary to complete purchases, subscription management, or restore purchases through Apple or Google.
8. International Transfers
Because we do not operate user accounts or host your trip data on our servers, we generally do not transfer your trip information internationally. If you contact us by email, your message may be processed in countries where we or our email provider operate.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the data we handle. Because most data stays on your device, you should protect your device with a passcode/biometrics and keep your operating system updated.
10. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, and to object or withdraw consent.
For this App, you can typically:
- Delete trip history inside the App;
- Turn off Location or Notifications in device settings;
- Uninstall the App to remove locally stored data;
- Manage subscriptions in App Store or Google Play account settings;
- Contact us to exercise privacy rights (Section 12).
California residents: We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. You may request access or deletion of personal information we hold from direct communications.
EEA/UK residents: You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product changes or legal requirements. Material changes will be communicated through reasonable means (e.g., in-app notice). Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy.
